Stressproof is a registered Trademark of the LaSalle Steel Co., producers of the material. It is a medium carbon-manganese free machining grade which has been severely cold worked to produce high tensile properties.  The bars are specially treated to relieve the stresses set up by the cold working, thus minimizing the tendency toward warpage after machining which is common in ordinary cold drawn bars.  This steel has a built-in hardness and wear ability, without heat treatment.
